LIMA — Detectives from the Lima Police Department hope to piece together what happened to a man who was dropped off at a local hospital just before dying.

At 6:15 p.m. Monday, a car pulled up to Mercy Health-St. Rita’s Medical Center with Brandon Basinger, 39, of Lima, in the back seat and not breathing, according to Det. Steve Stechschulte of the Lima Police Department.

The other people in the vehicle alerted emergency room staff, who began attempting lifesaving measures. After Basinger was removed from the vehicle and rushed inside by staff, two white males and a white female in the car fled.

Hospital staff couldn’t revive Basinger, who was pronounced dead shortly after being removed from the vehicle.

Lima police were able to identify the three people who dropped Basinger off at the hospital and is attempting to locate and make contact with them to further investigate the death.

Anyone with information about Basinger’s travels leading up to the hospital visit should contact Lima Police Department at 419-227-4444 or Stechschulte at 419-221-5181.
