LIMA — A 35-year-old man was transported to Mercy Health-St. Rita’s Medical Center on Tuesday after suffering what law enforcement officials believe to be an accidental, self-inflicted gunshot wound.
According to a spokeswoman for the Allen County Sheriff’s Office, a third party called the office to say a friend had accidentally shot himself at a location on East Main Street in Cairo. Deputies found the man with a gunshot wound to his left thigh. The man, whose identity was not released, was transported by Cairo EMS with what were believed to be non-life-threatening injuries.
The sheriff’s detective bureau is investigating the incident, and charges have not been filed at this time but are likely, according to the spokeswoman. Alcohol may have been a factor in the incident, she said.
