Active shooter captured in Wapakoneta Monday

WAPAKONETA — Wapakoneta police responded to Laurelwood Apartments at 10:30 a.m. Monday on the report of a man firing guns from his apartment.

According to a post on the department’s Facebook page, when officers arrived at the apartment complex in the 900 block of Magnolia Drive, they witnessed the unidentified man firing his gun and immediately called the Emergency Response Team from their office and the Auglaize County Sheriff’s Office.

Nearby apartments were evacuated and the suspect was located in a hallway shooting a long gun.

He came out of the complex and was detained without incident.

Due to prior comments about possible devices, the Allen County Bomb Squad was called to the scene. The man’s apartment was cleared, and no devices were found.

The unnamed man is being detained, pending formal charges.
