FORT RECOVERY — A 6-year-old Mercer County boy was killed Monday when the all-terrain-vehicle he was operating overturned on top of him.
According to a press release issued by Mercer County Sheriff, Jeff Grey, Sawyer Overman and his 8-year-old brother, whose name was not released, were riding in a Polaris Ranger down a gravel drive between two farm fields at approximately 7:30 p.m. Monday in Recovery Township, west of state Route 49 and south of Park Road, at the time of the crash.
The report says Sawyer Overman was operating the side by side vehicle when it went off of the right side of the gravel road. The young driver lost control and went off of the left side of the gravel lane. The ATV overturned and ejected the boy, who was pinned under the vehicle. His brother was able to free himself and went to seek help.
Several adults responded and attempted resuscitation efforts until St. Henry EMS arrived. Overman was transported to Mercer Health in Coldwater by St. Henry EMS and was pronounced deceased a short time later. The older boy sustained minor injuries.
Deputies were assisted at the scene by member of the St. Henry EMS and Fort Recovery Fire Department.
