LIMA — Angie Herzog has been selected as this year’s Jefferson Award winner to represent the region in the national awards dinner in Washington D.C.
Herzog received three different nominations for the award based on her lengthy volunteer resume. She volunteers with CASA, chartered the Marimor Legacy Foundation, serves on the board of St. Vincent DePaul and assists with its food pantry, works as a Volunteer Guardian and began a music ministry program at Mercy Health-St. Rita’s Medical Center.
She is also involved in the Lima Exchange Club and plays with the Lima Area Concert Band.
“It blows my mind that we’ve been doing this for 20 years and every year, 12 people are found in our community to give the Jefferson Award to, and it’s not just little things — volunteering is so many different things and all of the honorees just wow me,” Herzog said.
Herzog was announced as the area representative at Wednesday’s mayor press conference, where winners were acknowledged over the last two weeks in lieu of the awards banquet that was canceled this year.
“Volunteering brings me joy and it brings joy to the people I’m ministering to, and I hope that more people take the advantage to bring joy to others’ lives,” she said.
This year’s national dinner in Washington D.C. will likely be virtual, but further details will be announced at a later date.
