OTTAWA — The Blanchard River in Ottawa is on its way back down after cresting early Wednesday morning. A flood warning remains in effect through Thursday afternoon.
The river crested at 25.14 feet at 4 a.m. Wednesday after several days of heavy rain. That’s 2 feet above the minor flooding level of 23 feet, according to the National Weather Service’s Advanced Hydrologic Prediction Service. A flood warning remains in place through Thursday night.
Forecasts show the river dropping below that 23-foot level Thursday night and back below the action level of 20 feet on Friday night. It’s the highest level on the river since it hit 27.55 feet in July 2017 but well below the 31.4 feet seen in August 2007.
The Auglaize River at Fort Jennings crested at 13.73 feet at 12:45 a.m. Wednesday, above the minor flood stage for that river. It was expected to dip below the minor flood stage of 13 feet Wednesday night and out of the action stage of 11 feet by Thursday afternoon.
