LIMA — Kenny Coats, of Lima, owns this beautiful 1999 Pontiac Firebird convertible. He has owned it for three years.
“I’ve been in the car business all my life. I owned a Pontiac dealership in the ’80s,” Coats said.
Coats bought the car three years ago with just 16,000 miles on it. Currently, the car has only 18,000 miles.
“It’s a nice car, not a scratch anywhere. It’s totally original,” Coats said.
Being a car person, Coats knew what he wanted in a vehicle.
“I just wanted something to enjoy,” he said.
Coats’ Firebird contains a V-6 engine with an automatic transmission.
The Pontiac Firebird was designed as a pony car to compete with Ford’s Mustang and Mercury’s Cougar.
Pontiac hoped to tempt car buyers into owning a 1999 Pontiac Firebird with the promise of a true driving experience. The 1999 model year garnered few changes from the ‘98 model, when it had a complete redesign. The ‘99 Firebird was available in both coupe and convertible models.
Coats enjoys driving his Firebird and seeing the people looking at his car.
“It gets a lot of attention from people,” Coats said.
