Lima man escapes prison time after stabbing girlfriend

LIMA — A 22-year-old Lima man who stabbed his girlfriend with a pocket knife during a verbal altercation that turned physical was spared jail time Tuesday.

Jacquez Darby was sentenced to three years on probation and was ordered to perform 40 hours of community service on an amended charge of aggravated assault, a felony of the fourth degree. Darby was indicted by a grand jury in February on a second-degree felony charge of felonious assault but accepted a deal from prosecutors in March.

Prosecutors said Darby inflicted a “minor puncture wound” on the victim for which she was treated and released at a Lima hospital.
