HARROD — Jared Shea, a 16-year-old junior at Allen East High School, has his sights on an engineering career after high school is over.
He plans on enrolling at Ohio Northern University in Ada.
He says through his experience at Allen East he’s learned to appreciate the engineering field.
“Just all of the projects that we’ve gotten to do in the engineering classes that we’ve had here. They’re just fun to do,” Shea said.
One of his favorite subjects was science.
“I like dissecting for biology and all that,” Shea said.
He’s still undecided on which engineering discipline he’ll study at Ohio Northern University.
Shea has participated in track and soccer at Allen East.
He runs the 4x8 mile and the two-mile events, although this year’s track season was cut short due to the COVID-19 pandemic.
Participating in sports has taught him teamwork, something he can utilize later in life.
“Just being able to figure stuff out when things aren’t going right and you have to chance things up,” Shea said.
He’s found the experience at Allen East to be a good one and he looks forward to his senior year.
“I like coming here and hanging out with all of my friends and cousins and just being here with all of the teachers that I’ve had for a few years now and working with them,” Shea said.
