Continental woman dies in Putnam County crash


PUTNAM COUNTY — A Continental woman is dead after being struck by a vehicle that ran a stop sign at the intersection of state Route 114 and county Road 19 in Putnam County on Tuesday afternoon.

According to a release from the Lima post of the Ohio State Highway Patrol, the accident happened at 1:14 p.m. Tuesday when John Barnhart, 29, of Cloverdale, was northbound on state Route 114 when he went through the intersection without stopping and struck an eastbound SUV driven by Shari Dotson, 48, of Continental.

Dotson’s vehicle also struck the corner of the house at 18980 state Route 114, ejecting her from the vehicle.

She was taken to Mercy Health-St. Rita’s Putnam County Ambulatory Care, where she died.

Barnhart was taken to Mercy Health-St. Rita’s Medical Center in Lima with serious injuries.

The report indicates that Barnhart was wearing a seatbelt, while Dotson was not. The crash remains under investigation.
