OTTAWA — The Putnam County Veterans Service Commission is offering county residents interested in honoring local veterans a chance to purchase “Military Tribute” hanging banners that feature the names and photos of local residents that served in the military.

The 2 fooot-by-4 foot banners will be hung throughout Putnam County towns that approved the program from Memorial Day to Veterans Day every year. As of Friday, the program has been approved for residents in Ottawa, Leipsic, Gilboa and Pandora. More towns may qualify for the banners depending on approval from each village’s administration.

When banners are taken down after Veterans Day, they will be cleaned and stored at the commission’s office to be prepped to hang in each village the following year starting Memorial Day.

Only those veterans that have been honorably discharged will qualify for the program.

Cost for each banner is $150. Veteran Service Office Kristi Powell asks that residents or businesses interested in sponsoring a banner contact the Putnam County Veterans Service Commission at 419-523-4478. Checks and photos for the banners may also be mailed to the commission office located at 336 E. Main St.; Suite A; Ottawa, OH 45875.

Photos and any questions about the program can also be sent to Powell at kristi.powell@putnamcountyohio.gov.

The Veterans Service Commission office itself is closed to the public due to the coronavirus outbreak, but phone calls are welcome.
