Cookie manufacturer fined $262K after two amputations

McCOMB — A cookie and cracker manufacturer has been fined $262,000 after two employees suffered amputations in separate incidents at the facility in 2019.

The U.S. Department of Labor’s Occupational Safety and Health Administration (OSHA) cited Hearthside Food Solutions Inc. in McComb for failure to control hazardous energy sources, inadequate machine guarding and failure to train employees to perform energy control procedures during service and maintenance operations, stemming from the 2019 incidents.

“Hearthside Foods has a history of OSHA violations for machine hazards,” OSHA Area Director Kimberly Nelson said in a press release. “Employers have a responsibility to train and protect workers from such hazards at their facilities.”
