WAPAKONETA — The Auglaize County Sheriff’s Office, in conjunction with the Ohio Attorney General’s Office and the Ohio Bureau of Investigation, has released an artist’s rendering of the man believed to have been seen in the vicinity of a St. Marys Township carryout that was the scene of a 1978 shooting that claimed the life of a St. Marys resident.
Roger L. Parent was 33 years old when he was shot and killed during the course of a robbery of the P&S Carry Out near St. Marys late on the evening of Dec. 29, 1978.
Auglaize County Sheriff Al Solomon said Wednesday that the sketch being circulated is not new, “but it’s been a few years since we’ve put it out there. We’ve never stopped working on the case. We’ve met with police officers who were working at the time, and we even made a trip to Oklahoma a few months ago to talk to someone we thought might have information on the case.”
Solomon said while no new, concrete information on the case has come to light, he hopes the case can resolved in the near future, for Parent’s family but also for former Sheriff James Knoch.
“It was on his watch that this happened,” Solomon said. “I’d like to solve this while he’s still around to see it come to an end.”
Anyone with information about this homicide is urged to contact the Auglaize County Sheriff’s Office Detective Division at 419-739-6555 or submit a tip online on the Attorney General’s website.
