Parole denied for man convicted of 1974 Van Wert County murders

COLUMBUS — A Columbus Grove man currently serving a life prison sentence for the 1974 murder of two Van Wert County residents has been denied parole.

The Ohio Adult Parole Authority met in February and declined to release Robin Bender. His next hearing is scheduled for December of 2023, according to the board’s website.

Bender, 66, was convicted in 1974 for the murders in July that year of Louis and Kenneth Youngpeter during a home robbery on Gerdeman Road just west of Delphos. Kenneth Youngpeter’s wife, Judy, was seriously injured in the incident.

Bender is currently serving his sentence at the Madison Correctional Institution.
