Independents file for November election

LIMA — Three independent candidates filed for countywide offices in Auglaize County, and one filed in Allen County by Monday afternoon, the deadline for filing in the Nov. 3 election.

There were no independent candidates who filed in Putnam County, according to Becky Hermiller, Putnam County Board of Elections deputy director.

Daniel Beck filed as an independent for Allen County commissioner seat and is the only independent to file, said Kathy Meyer, Allen County BOE director. Jay Begg is retiring and won’t seek re-election. There are five Republicans vying for a spot on the November ballot along with one Democrat.

In Auglaize County, Michael Vorhees filed as an independent candidate to run for sheriff. There are no Republican or Democratic candidates, giving Vorhees the role. Al Solomon has served as sheriff since 2005 and is finishing his fourth term. He previously announced he would not be seeking re-election.

Also in Auglaize County, Ken Fox filed as an independent for county coroner. Republican Jason Stienecker was appointed to the position by the Auglaize County GOP at the beginning of 2020.

Duane Stienecker filed as an independent for an Auglaize County commissioner’s seat, for the term commencing Jan. 2, 2021.
