OTTAWA — Cancun Mexican Restaurant in Ottawa has been serving authentic Mexican food since September 2019, filling a need for the food in Putnam County.

Juan Delgado and Sergio Delapoz both own Cancun, 931 N. Perry St., Ottawa. Juan previously worked at Cabo Mexican Restaurant in Delphos, and Delapoz owns Cancun Mexican Restaurants in Ottawa and Cincinnatti.

“We have been excited to come to Putnam County and love the people, and it has been a success,” Delgado said. The business benefits from its location on state Route 65. bringing a lot of traffic to the restaurant.

Customers have come from Bluffton, Lima, Delphos and the remainder of Putnam County.

“When our customers come, we like them to feel at home,” Delapoz said.

The most popular item on the menu has been the Mega Burrito Bowl, where customers build their own burrito with black beans or refried beans, steak, chicken or beef and red, green spinach or cheese sauce. It comes with lettuce and pico de gallo.

“People like our sauces and the quality of the meat,” Delgado said. “We like to create quality food and unique dishes.”

Salsas and chips are homemade every day with cheese, spinach and red salsas.

On the menu are lunch and dinner items, including burritos, tacos, taco salad, rice and beans, enchiladas, tamales and street tacos with steak, grilled chicken or carnitas. Carry-out and dine-in options are available.

“We have filled a need in the community by providing great service, food and margaritas,” Delgado said.

A full-service bar offers margaritas include lime, peach, mango, strawberry and pina coloda. The decorations, bar area and furniture were made in Mexico to provide an authentic Mexican feel.

Rum, whiskey and Mexican beers, such as Corona, Modelo, Pacifico and Dos Equis, are served, with other beers on tap available.

A patio area was constructed that allows customers to enjoy their food and beverages outside in the spring and summer months.

“A lot of people love to go outside and enjoy a nice meal and good margarita,” Delgado said.

Cancun started offering Mariachi musicians who perform at the restaurant from 5 to 8 p.m. the first Tuesday of every other month.

Business hours are from 11 a.m. to 10 p.m. Mondays through Fridays, and noon to 10:30 p.m. Saturdays and Sundays.
