2020 Jefferson Award winners announced

LIMA — The winners for the 2020 Jefferson Awards for Public Service have been announced by the United Way of Greater Lima.

This year’s winners include: Richard Bowe Sr., Barb Coil, Nicholas Curth (youth), Aubree Flowers (youth), Kandi and Kim Graham, Angela Herzog, Kallie Kitchen (youth), Vince Koza, Andrew Maravola, Melvin Parsons Jr., Taylor Paul (youth) and Sally Windle.

One of the 12 recipients will be chosen as the region’s representative to Washington D.C. for the national Jefferson Awards celebration.

Richard Bowe Sr., of Lima: Volunteered 20 years with Our Daily Bread, 700 hours for American Red Cross and with Elida Emmanuel and Cridersville Baptist churches.

Barb Coil, of Spencerville: Volunteered with Spencerville Ambulance Service since 1974, Joint Township Memorial Hospital and donated 128 pints of blood.

Nicholas Curth (youth), of Delphos: Renovated landscaping for Delphos Senior Citizens Center for Eagle Scout project while maintaining project costs through donations.

Aubree Flowers (youth), of Lima: Activities included the Buddy Walk, Night to Shine, Diva’s Den, The JOY Project, Big Spartans Little Spartans and Closing the Achievement Gap program.

Kandi and Kim Graham, of Lima: Began Heart and Sole of Allen County, donating more than 500 pairs of shoes to Allen County schools.

Angela Herzog, of Lima: Volunteered with CASA, Lima YMCA, Mercy Health-St. Rita’s Medical Center, Lima Area Concert Band, Lima Exchange Club, Marimor Legacy Foundation Board.

Kallie Kitchen (youth), of Lima: Activities included Interact Club and Bath student council, Ottawa River cleanup, food banks and Fassett Farms.

Vince Koza, of Lima: Activities included West Central Ohio sports coverage, American Cancer Society, OHSAA, Allen County Abilities Baseball League and Equestrian Therapy Program.

Andrew Maravola, of Lima: Volunteered with charity car show, CIAO, Veteran’s Food Pantry, Cops for Kids, DARE and Mercy Health-St. Rita’s Medical Center.

Melvin Parsons Jr., of Spencerville: Volunteered 50 years with Boy Scouts of America, American Legion Post 191, Spencerville honor guard and Goodwill Industries.

Taylor Paul (youth), of New Bremen: Designed St. Paul United Church of Christ’s Golden Harvest Community Orchard and expanded Blessing Pantry for Girl Scout Gold Award.

Sally Windle, of Lima: Executive Director of ArtSpace/Lima, involved with Allen County Fair, Blues in the Schools, The United Way, Council for the Arts and Lima schools.
