Wednesday night fire forces St. Marys area family to find temporary lodging

ST. MARYS — Crews from four departments battled a house fire early Wednesday evening north of St. Marys that forced a family from its residence.

According to a spokesman for the St. Marys Fire Department, firefighters were dispatched at approximately 6:30 p.m. Wednesday in response to the report of a residential fire at 16160 state Route 66 North. Upon their arrival, firefighters found the single-story structure to have smoke showing from the roof area and quickly extinguished the blaze.

The occupants of the home had safely evacuated the home before firefighters arrived.

Monetary damage to the home is undetermined, and the cause of the blaze is still under investigation, according to the spokesman. The home is owned by Vicky Owen.

Other departments that responded to the blaze included St. Marys Township, Buckland and New Knoxville.
