LIMA — Local couples now have another location where they will be able to say “I do.”

Dunkin’s Diamonds owner Stuart Dunkin rolled out the idea to offer marriage ceremony services across all locations at the end of 2019. So far, three couples have had their services at the Lima location.

“It was a surprise, but you know, we’ve had a tremendous response,” said store manager Bob Hogue. “So far, we’ve actually performed at least three, but a lot of people have expressed interest — we’ve probably had a good 12 to 18 people say they are interested for when it comes time.”

Couples do not have to purchase their engagement or wedding rings from the store in order to have an ordained associate perform the services.

“Although we’d love to have them get the engagement ring through us, it’s not even necessary. If they just express the desire and we can come up with the schedule that could work, we’re happy to do it,” Hogue explained. “We would just schedule it and they would, of course, want to make sure that they have their license, they have their witnesses which we can provide if need be, then perform the ceremonies. Whoever performs the ceremony would help take care of getting the paperwork to the courthouse to get them their certificate.”

Julia Gelivera, one of the two associates at the Lima location ordained, has had the chance to preside over all three of Lima’s ceremonies. She said she was excited to add this to her skillset because she gets to share in those special moments even more now.

The services are held right in the store, typically near the engagement ring section of the store offset by a large canvas picture of a bride and groom and an overflowing vase of white flowers.

“There are people who have busy lifestyles or work that don’t have enough time to swing by Las Vegas or they do not go to church or financially they cannot afford to have a big wedding,” Gelivera said. “Sometimes they just want it to be an intimate moment between them. They can have a place where it’s not cold and gray like a courthouse, it’s not as expensive as going to a Las Vegas, it’s done here locally.”

In terms of the customers inquiring about the new services, Gelivera said it’s been a wide variety of ages and circumstances.

“There are lots of different variations where this kind of service is needed,” she said. “For example, with young people, if he’s going to the Army, they have to catch it when he’s here. There could be an older couple who has been together for so long or already went through different ceremonies previously and they want to make it official but more special for the two of them. Sometimes, it’s a little bit of a sad story where a person won’t heal and they want to make their relationship official.”
