Mascot Olympics set for Feb. 22 at Elida Fieldhouse


LIMA — The Allen County Sheriff’s Office and Allen County D.A.R.E. program will host the county’s first-ever Mascot Olympics Feb. 22 at the Elida Fieldhouse.

Mascots in attendance will include Daren from Allen County D.A.R.E. program, J. Denny and Denny from Bluffton University, Owen from OhioMeansJobs, Torque from the University of Northwestern Ohio, Running Man from Anytime Fitness, Allen County Safety Pup, Sparky from American Township Fire Department, Beanie from the City of Lima, Thor from Elida schools, Thunder from Allen East schools, and Wildcat from Delphos Jefferson schools.

The mascots will compete in four events to see which will take home the gold. There will also be a spirit award. Attendees can vote for their favorite mascot by donating change to that mascot. The mascot with the heaviest bucket of change wins the spirit award for their institution.

Admission is free. Doors open at 9:30 a.m and the competition starts at 10 a.m. All proceeds benefit St. Jude Children’s Research Hospital to help fight childhood cancer.
