AMERICAN TOWNSHIP — The Lima post of the Ohio State Highway Patrol is investigating a two-vehicle crash that included a Shawnee school bus.

At 4:14 p.m. Wednesday, troopers responded to a report of a two-vehicle crash involving a Shawnee Local School bus, according to Timothy Grigsby, Ohio State Highway Patrol. A 2007 Bluebird school bus, operated by John Evans, 69, of Elida, was traveling eastbound on Wendell Avenue.

A 2011 Audi A5, operated by Deborah McFarland, 62, of Lima, was stopped facing south on Lawnwood Drive at the intersection. The school bus made a left turn onto Lawnwood Drive and failed to turn to the right portion of the roadway, striking McFarland’s vehicle.

The school bus was transporting 30 students, of which 13 students were transported by American Township Fire and EMS to Mercy Health-St. Rita’s Medical Center with non-life threatening injuries. All other involved parties refused medical treatment.

The drivers of both vehicles were reportedly wearing seat belts. Drugs or alcohol are not suspected to be a factor, and the crash remains under investigation.
