PERRY TOWNSHIP — The Perry school board met in special session Monday night to take care of two pieces of business —the resignation of board member Tammy Lehman McDonnell and the hiring of Mandy France as the district’s new treasurer.
France is currently the treasurer of Benjamin Local Schools, a position she’s held since July of 2016.
France will begin her new duties for Perry schools on Feb. 10 and will be paid $79,000 per year. Her contract will expire July 31, 2021.
“I’m very excited to come here to Commodore Country and looking forward to this opportunity,” said France. “This is my 20th year in school finance, and I have had various experiences as far as educational service centers, community schools and traditional districts and this fit my professional goals.”
France has served as treasurer for the North Central Ohio Educational Service Center, the Hardin County Educational Service Center and Hardin Community School.
France replaces Esther Ruhe, who resigned at the December meeting. France is looking forward to the new challenge.
“I think the challenges present themselves as just learning the new job, learning the staff and making sure I’m a good member of the community,” said France.
France says she’s had a chance to look over the district’s finances.
“I think that there are a couple of opportunities for them (the school board) to communicate more to the community of their needs financially. It appears that after a couple more years, they’re going to need some additional revenue here to sustain their operations and I look forward to learning with the board what that will look like,” she said.
Board President Marc Sidener was pleased with the selection of France.
“We’re very happy Miss France coming to be a part of Perry Local Schools and we’re excited that, given her background and experience, that she will continue to push the future and the success of this school in a good direction,” said Sidener.
The school board has yet to set in motion the process for replacing superintendent Alison Van Gorder, who recently submitted her resignation. That will likely come at their next meeting on Feb.11.
