VAN WERT — A Delphos man charged with attempted murder will be sentenced March 3 after pleading guilty last week to lesser charges.
David Youngpeter, 38, Delphos, entered pleas of guilty in Van Wert County Common Pleas Court on Jan. 10 to single counts of aggravated arson and felonious assault, both second-degree felonies. The remaining charge was dismissed by prosecutors.
Youngpeter was indicted by a grand jury in October of last year on a charge of attempted murder, along with additional counts of felonious assault and aggravated arson, in connection with a Sept. 3 incident in which an unidentified female who sought treatment at Delphos Ambulatory Care for severe burns to both her legs. She reported to the medical staff that Youngpeter intentionally inflicted the burns to her body by dousing a room with gasoline and igniting it.
The victim, whose name has not been released by Delphos police, was taken to Mercy Health-St. Rita’s Medical Center and was later transferred to the burn unit at St. Vincent Hospital in Toledo for treatment of her injuries.
Youngpeter also had superficial burns to his upper body and was treated at the Lima hospital.
