PERRY TOWNSHIP — Perry schools superintendent Alison Van Gorder confirmed her resignation Thursday in addition to the resignation of board member Tammy McDonnell.
The Perry Local School District Board of Education held an emergency meeting Thursday morning in the district’s community building in Lima for the purpose of considering the appointment or employment of a public employee or official.
The superintendent’s resignation was submitted at the regular school board meeting last Tuesday and is effective June 17. When asked to comment about her resignation, she declined to comment.
The treasurer position has not yet been filled.
The school board unanimously voted in May 2017 to hire Van Gorder, head principal at Lima Senior High School, as the district’s new chief.
Van Gorder had been at Lima Senior for 15 years, the last seven as the head principal. Before being head principal she was assistant principal. She began her career at Lima Senior as an intervention specialist, or special education teacher.
