WAPAKONETA — A Shelby County man was sentenced in Auglaize County Common Pleas Court last week to 54 months in prison on charges of gross sexual imposition and abduction.
Jonathan Mallak, 29, of Russia, was indicted in July by a grand jury on one count of rape, a first-degree felony; one count of abduction, a felony of the third degree; and one count of burglary, a second-degree felony.
During a final pre-trial hearing Friday, Mallak entered into a negotiated plea agreement with prosecutors that called for him to plead guilty to an amended count of gross sexual imposition, a fourth-degree felony, and one found of abduction.
He was sentenced to a prison term of 18 months on the gross sexual imposition charge and 36 months on the abduction count. Judge Frederick Pepple ordered the prison terms to be served consecutively.
Mallak was also designated a Tier I sex offender and as such much register with the authorities annually for the next 15 years.
A jury trial for Mallak had been scheduled to begin Jan. 28.
