Fostoria man to undergo competency evaluation

OTTAWA — A Fostoria man who allegedly raped a girl under age 10 in Putnam County will undergo a competency exam.

Cody Wells, 19, was previously indicted on June 19 by a Putnam County jury on rape charges. He appeared Monday in Putnam County Common Pleas Court with his attorney Barry Schroeder before Judge Keith Schierloh. Wells’ defense requested a competency exam be performed and the court granted the request for the exam to be completed. A deadline was set for Jan. 21 for objections to be made regarding the exam.

Wells is currently being held in the Wood County Jail in Bowling Green on rape charges. He is also accused of two counts of rape of a 6-year-old boy. Wells’ bond in Wood County is $100,000 and is set at $250,000 in Putnam County.
