LIMA — An inmate at the Allen County jail was back in custody Saturday after failing to return from her work release job the previous evening.
Debra Mitchell, 50, left the jail on Friday afternoon and was due to return at approximately 11:30 p.m. that day. Jail staff said she did not return and deputies attempted to make contact with her at her residence that night but were unsuccessful.
At about 3:30 p.m. Saturday, a member of Mitchell’s family contacted the sheriff’s office and stated she was back at her residence on Albert Street in Lima and wished to turn herself in. Deputies made contact with Mitchell and she was arrested without incident.
She was charged with escape and her case was forwarded to the Lima Municipal Court. Mitchell was in jail originally on an OVI charge.
