VAN WERT — A Van Wert man pleaded guilty Wednesday in Van Wert County Common Pleas Court to a Bill of Information regarding a sexual relationship he had with a minor.

Tristen R. Wehner, 19, admitted to sexual conduct with a minor, two counts of extortion and one count of tampering with evidence, all third-degree felonies.

According to police, through the course of the investigation, it was discovered Wehner was found to have had a sexual relationship with a minor. He then extorted her to continue the relationship.

The Van Wert City Police applied for a search warrant for Wehner’s cell phone. Once notified of the search warrant and prior to turning in the cell phone, Wehner tried to delete evidence off the phone. The phone was examined and another victim was discovered. Evidence indicated he extorted this victim in the same manner.

The incidents occurred between Oct. 1, 2018, and Dec. 31, 2018, and Aug. 1, 2019, to Dec. 2, 2019.

Wehner is a 2018 graduate of Van Wert High School and was an assistant coach on the football team after graduation.

Wehner will be sentenced Feb. 18.
