1 hospitalized after Hancock County accident

MARION TOWNSHIP — The Hancock County Sheriff’s Office investigated a two-vehicle accident at 1:01 p.m. Monday at the intersection of U.S. Route 224 and township Road 237 in Marion Township.

Shane Kimberly, 42, of Greenwich, was driving a 2003 Freightliner east on U.S. 224. Beverly Atkins, 81, of Findlay, was driving a 2010 Ford sport utility vehicle north on Road 237. Atkins stopped at a stop sign and failed to see Kimberly’s approaching vehicle and pulled into the intersection. Atkins’ vehicle was struck in the front left corner, causing it to go off the right side of the road. The vehicle rolled onto its side and came to rest on the driver’s side.

Atkins was trapped in her vehicle and was extricated by mechanical means by the Washington Township Fire Department.

Beverly was taken by Hanco EMS to be treated for possible injuries. She was cited for failure to yield the right of way at a posted stop sign.

Both vehicles sustained heavy damage.
