LIMA — Even though it was Jan. 4, area children rang in 2020 Saturday at the Lima Mall with an event which culminated in a balloon drop in the center court area.
“Today we’re just celebrating New Year’s with our KidX Club. A lot of them can’t make it ‘til midnight, and so we’re having some fun making it to noon and so it’s our new New Year’s Eve KidX Party,” said Betsy Billingsley, marketing director at the mall.
The party was also a chance for kids to learn.
“We hope that they learned a little bit about traditions around the world. We have different stations for them to check out to try like in Spain, the 12 grapes, in China, they have fortune cookies, you know, that sort of thing. So it’s just kind of a learning experience but having a little fun as well,” said Billingsley.
The KidX Club is a way for children 12 and under to participate in events at the mall.
“It’s a free club that we have here at the mall and throughout our other properties. They could sign up online at limamall.com or they could just show up to an event. We host a lot of events and we get to see a lot of the same kids, you know, and have fun with each and every one of them, so just popping into an event that’ll get you registered for all the fun stuff,” said Billingsley.
The parents seem to enjoy the activities.
“It’s a fantastic opportunity for children to be able to get together and experience the new year in a safe environment,” said Chas Hollar, of Lima, who brought his 2-year-old daughter Kailin to the mall.
Likewise, Sarah Talkalai, of Lima, brought her 2-year-old son A.J. to ring in the new year.
“I think it’s awesome that they’re doing things like this in the mall that are available to my community so that kids can enjoy different holidays and have full experiences,” she said.
