LIMA — A Lima man charged with threatening and shooting at his girlfriend in September on Thursday waived his constitutional right to a speedy trial.
John Sanders, 41, is charged with felonious assault with a firearm specification, a second-degree felony, and a first-degree felony count of kidnapping, also with a firearm specification.
Police and prosecutors say on Sept. 22 Sanders threatened to strike his girlfriend with a club and later obtained a handgun, pointed the gun at her and twice pulled the trigger, although the gun was not loaded. After allowing the woman to leave, he fired the gun, which had by now been loaded, through the front door of the residence, barely missing the woman.
A trial date for Sanders has been tentatively set for April 7.
