LIMA — You can’t go anywhere without bumping into Santa these days as he scouts out the good little boys and girls.
Besides making a list and checking it twice, Santa makes public appearances along with his reindeer, straight from the North Pole.
Santa’s visit to Shawnee Plaza on Sunday was part of a fundraiser for the Lima Symphony Orchestra.
For $5, you could have your picture taken with Santa and pet a couple of his reindeer.
“It’s not every day you get to pet a reindeer, and encompassing it all with Santa and cookies and all that good fun,” said Allison Rode, who had her two children with her.
Megan Kerns attended the event with her son and daughter.
“It’s very cool. It’s a nice opportunity for them to get to experience Christmas,” Kerns said.
This is the first time the Lima Symphony Orchestra has invited Santa and his reindeer to Lima, and it looks like it could become an annual event.
“My goodness, I can’t even believe the turnout that we have,” said Shannon Wannemacher, board president of the Lima Symphony Orchestra. “If this is any indication of the enthusiasm that the community would have for an event like this, we might need a bigger tent next year.”
Creating memories for these young people is something they’ll have with them forever.
“It’s just all about the kids and getting the family together to have something special and fun to do,” Wannemacher said. “I just think that an event like this really brings people together, so the fact that people recognize that and are here and supporting this event that ultimately benefits the symphony, it’s just incredible.”
All of the proceeds benefit the Lima Symphony Orchestra.
“It’s a really exciting season for the symphony. We have multiple conductors that are a part of our search for this upcoming year to see who the new conductor of Lima Symphony Orchestra will be,” Wannemacher said. “Having so many guest conductors over the course of the season, it’s an expensive season, so we’re doing whatever we can just to raise those funds.”
