DELPHOS — Most people have their “dream” car in their minds, but few can say they own their dream car. Ron Illyes, of Delphos, is one of the few that does.

Illyes has owned this 1932 Ford Roadster since November 2008.

“Since I was 14 years old, it was my dream car,” Illyes said. “I’m 69 years old now!”

Ford produced a brand new vehicle in 1932. Little did the company know how popular its roadster would become.

The 1932 Ford roadster was popular with hot rodder folks. They would change out the engine with more expensive and powerful engines. This car has appeared in hot rod enthusiasts magazines more than any other vehicle.

It wasn’t just the design of the car though that made it so popular; 1932 was the first year Ford installed its V-8 engine. Changing out an old V-8 with a newer V-8 was easier to do.

Building a 1932 Ford is easy to do, as stock parts are easily accessible. Due to the ease of building and make-overs, there are more 1932 Fords on the road today than there were when the car was new.

Illyes obviously isn’t alone in his love for this car. He enjoys taking his beauty to cruise-ins and car shows. He has been to the Westgate Charity Car Show for the last six years.
