Midwest Electric returns $1 million to members

ST. MARYS — Midwest Electric is returning $1 million in excess revenue to nearly 7,500 current customers and former members who used the local electric cooperative’s services in 2003, marking the second time this year Midwest Electric paid back members in 2019.

The average residential member from 2003 will receive a bill credit of about $102, Midwest Electric said.

“This excess revenue sharing demonstrates that Midwest Electric members are not just customers; they are members and part-owners of their electric cooperative,” Midwest Electric board President Larry Vandemark said in a press release.

The electric co-op has returned more than $2 million to its members this year.
