Two killed in Mercer County crash


MERCER COUNTY — The Mercer County Sheriff’s Office is investigating a crash Friday that took two lives.

According to a news release the crash happened at 11:50 a.m. Friday at the intersection of state Route 707 and state Route 707 in western Mercer County.

A Jeep apparently failed to yield the right of way and was struck by the driver of a Chevy truck.

The driver, Malcolm Hughes, 67, of Springfield and his passenger, Judy Hughes, 65, his wife, was killed in the crash.

The driver of the Chevy truck, William Hamrick, 65 of Wilshire was taken to Adams Memorial Hospital in Decatur, Indiana with non-life-threatening injuries.
