LIMA — The new Allen County Juvenile Detention Center is now open and in full operation with the transfer Friday of youthful offenders from the former center on Wardhill Avenue to the new $7 million facility. located at 3050 N. Cole St., Lima.

Berlin Caroll, juvenile court administrator, issued a reminder to the public that all court functions — filings, hearings and trials — will continue to be held at the Juvenile Court facility located at 1000 Wardhill Ave.

Dedication ceremonies for the new 26-bed, 20,000 square foot facility were held in August. The site includes multiple classrooms, administrative offices, lobby, an intake area, a large laundry space, a medical office, a multi-purpose gym, an outside green space and the holding cells, which are located in two separate areas connected by interior counseling rooms.
