ELIDA — Mike Erman, of Elida, has owned this 1970 Ford Mustang 428 Cobra Jet since 1977. He was in high school then.

“There are lots of memories, and I’m glad I kept it,” Erman said.

As of August 2018, more than 10 million Mustangs had been produced in the United States. The American people loved the “pony car.” However, Ford executives never rested on one style, which might be one of the reasons the Ford Mustang is still produced to this day.

The 1970 Ford Mustang 428 Cobra Jet could go fast, as long as it was headed in a straight line. Mustang lovers wanted a car with sheer straight-line power. The body style was larger than the previous year, and decorative options such as air scoops were added. The very look of the 1970 Ford Mustang 428 Cobra Jet suggests a fast car.

Erman is happy that he kept his high school car all of these years. He enjoys driving it on nice days and attending car shows.
