Wapak trooper involved in 3-county chase that ends in arrest


WAPAKONETA — A Dayton man was arrested Thursday after leading a trooper from the Wapakoneta post of the Ohio State Highway Patrol on a chase that covered three counties.

The trooper was traveling on Interstate-75and attempted to stop a 2009 Ford Flex in Auglaize County at approximately 3:30 a.m. Thursday. The vehicle exited onto state Route 67 and stopped, then sped off when the trooper arrived at the vehicle’s passenger door.

The vehicle fled south on I-75 through Auglaize, Shelby and Miami counties, running over deployed stop sticks before leaving the roadway. The driver, James C. Harper, 32, of Dayton, fled on foot but was taken into custody a few moments later.

Harper was incarcerated in the Miami County jail. Charges are pending.
