OTTAWA — The 10th annual poker run 5K run/walk to benefit the Northwest Ohio Arctic Wolves Sled Hockey Team will begin at 2 p.m. Sunday, Oct. 27, at Car-E-It, 1206 E. Main St., Ottawa.
Registration is $20 at www.NorthwestPhysicalTherapy.com.
The Northwest Ohio Arctic Wolves Sled Hockey team started in August of 2014, a 501c3 organization under Ohio Sled Hockey.
Sled hockey is the same as stand up ice hockey, but is for people with physical disabilities that prevent them from being able to stand and play. A sled and 2 short sticks with picks are used to propel the player on the ice. Sled hockey is a paralympic sport and in 2014, our USA Men’s National team took the gold in Sochi.
Anyone from age 5 and up, who has a physical disability is welcome to join the team. Practice is held on Sunday from 10-11 am at the BGSU Arena. The season starts in September and goes through mid-April. The league is competitive and includes travel to tournaments in Ohio, Michigan, Indiana, Pennsylvania, New York and Canada.
