Delphos man pleads not guilty to murder charge

VAN WERT – A Delphos man entered pleas of not guilty Wednesday in Van Wert Common Pleas Court to charges of attempted murder and arson.

David Youngpeter, 38, is charged with attempted murder, a felony of the first degree; felonious assault, a second-degree felony; and two counts of aggravated arson, first- and second-degree felonies.

The Delphos man was arrested by Delphos police in connection with a Sept. 3 incident in which an unidentified female had sought treatment at Delphos Ambulatory Care for severe burns to both her legs. She reported to the medical staff that Youngpeter intentionally inflicted the burns to her body by dousing a room with gasoline and igniting it.

The victim, whose name has not been released by Delphos police, was taken to Mercy Health-St. Rita’s Medical Center and was later transferred to the burn unit at St. Vincent Hospital in Toledo for treatment of her injuries.

Youngpeter also had superficial burns to his upper body and was treated at the Lima hospital.

Youngpeter’s bond was set at $250,000. He will appear in court for a pre-trial hearing at 8 a.m. on Oct. 23.
