Sheriff: sex offender registration alerts can assist trick-or-treaters

Staff reports

LIMA — Allen County Sheriff Matt Treglia is urging area residents to use caution during the approaching Halloween trick-or-treat season by signing up for free email messages that will alert citizens of individuals who are featured on the county sex offender registry.

There are approximately 280 registered sex offenders in the county, and the sheriff’s office wants the community to know where they reside so they can choose to avoid those houses while trick-or-treating, according to a press release.

“We do the best we can in making sure sex offenders live where they tell us, so it is crucial that our citizens visit our website to see who the registered sex offenders are and where they are living,” said Treglia. “The mapping and address feature found on the website pinpoints exactly where an offender lives.”

To search for sex offenders and sign up for email alerts, go to the Allen County website at and click on the sex offender tab. The alerts are in real time and sent out via email as soon as a new offender has registered with the Allen County Sheriff’s Office.
