ELIDA — Dave Douglas, of Elida, owns this 1968 Chevy Camaro SS. He brought it to the Westgate Charity Car Show in June.

Douglas has owned the car for 31 years. He purchased it at Lima Highland Motor Sales. The car was originally red with a black vinyl top and red interior.

“It took me 14 months to rebuild it,” Douglas said.

1968 was the second model year for Chevy’s Camaro. Chevy relied heavily on making it a sports car, even going so far as introducing the Camaro as the Corvette’s cousin.

Douglas purchased a Camaro when he was in Vietnam.

“I was in Florida, and it didn’t have air so I sold it,” said Douglas. “I wanted another one ever since.”

Douglas puts around 2,000-3,000 miles on his Camaro per year. Driving it reminds him of his youth, he said.
