Thursday afternoon threat at Wapak middle school results in brief evacuation

WAPAKONETA — Wapakoneta Middle School was evacuated briefly on Thursday after officials at the Wapakoneta Police Department received a report of a threat at the school.

Wapakoneta Police Chief Calvin Schneider said the call was received at approximately 1:23 p.m. After consulting with school administrators, authorities ordered the school to be evacuated and the Allen County bomb squad was contacted to assist in searching the building.

The bomb squad conducted a search and no suspicious items were found, the chief said. Other departments assisting included the Auglaize County Sheriff’s Office and the Wapakoneta Fire Department.

Schneider said the investigation is ongoing and that no additional information is being released at this time. He commended school faculty and staff as well as the students for their “calm handling of the situation.”
