LIMA — Video game retailer GameStop — which has two locations in Lima — will close between 180 and 200 stores before the end of the year, the company told investors during its Q2 earnings call last week.

The fate of the GameStop stores at the Lima Mall and Clock Tower Plaza is unclear as the company has not publicly disclosed which locations are slated to close.

The closures were announced just months after the video game retailer unveiled plans to revamp its stores, piloting new strategies like competitive gaming leagues and stores specializing in retro gaming in an effort to transform GameStop stores into social hubs.

The company reported a net loss of $32 million with sales down 14.3% in the second quarter.
