KALIDA — A man described as having a gray beard driving a red vehicle with a white top was reported by Kalida residents asking kids to get in his car Tuesday.
Brian Siefker, Putnam County sheriff, said previously in August a resident in Lammers Subdivision in Kalida saw a red Mini Cooper at the neighbor’s home by his residence. The same vehicle was again seen on Tuesday by residents in Kalida in the same subdivision.
“He saw his neighbor kids playing soccer in August and the man waved them to go over into his vehicle,” Siefker said. The kids ran inside a house.
During a telephone interview Wednesday morning, Scott Mangas, Ottoville Elementary School principal, said one of his teacher’s friends sent her a photo of the vehicle in the Lammers Subdivision in Kalida.
Mangas said the school is working with the Ottoville Police Department and Putnam County Sheriff’s Office to determine the validity of the report. Karl Lammers, Kalida High School superintendent, also said the school is working with law enforcement to learn the validity of the vehicle. The resident Tuesday got a photo of the licence plate number of the vehicle in question that was registered in Franklin County.
“I called Franklin County and they haven’t had any contact with him and he is not in their system. I’m not sure what he is up to in the Kalida area, but we would like to make contact with him and know,” Siefker said.
Siefker said he met with the Ottoville and Kalida police chiefs to make them aware of what is going on and said he also personally patrolled the schools and subdivisions Wednesday.
Fort Jennings Police Department posted a photo of the vehicle with a description of the driver to its Facebook page Wednesday morning.
People are advised immediately to call the Putnam County Sheriffs Office if they have any information about the vehicle or person at 419-523-3208.
