LIMA — Lima/Allen County Neighborhoods In Partnership has invited city residents to a series of town hall-style forums meant to give community members a chance to ask council candidates about problems affecting Lima.
Fielding questions from the audience, the series will host each set of candidates for the three council races during three events held throughout October. Locations for each event have been chosen by ward in order to give voting residents easier access.
Candidates for the fourth ward race, challenger Peggy Ehora and incumbent Rebecca Kreher, will kick off the first of the forum series. Scheduled from 6 to 7:30 p.m. on Tuesday, Oct. 1, the first of the forums will be held at LACNIP Resource Center, 1440 W. Spring St., Lima.
The second event — between sixth ward candidate Cleven Jones and long-time councilor Derry Glenn — will be held from 7 to 8:30 p.m., Tuesday, Oct. 8, at Lima Towers, 790 S. Main St.
The third and final event, to take place Tuesday, Oct. 15 from 7 to 8:30 p.m. at St. Mark’s Methodist Church Fellowship Hall, 1110 N. Metcalf St., will feature the second ward candidates, challenger Tony Wilkerson and incumbent Sam McLean.
“Any citizen can come in and have questions for the candidate and have the chance to meet the candidate informally,” former LACNIP President John Schneider said.
Schneider, who is a regular face at many Lima City Council meetings, said the forums should help the public find positive solutions for the issues facing the city, such as housing, code enforcement and community relations with law enforcement.
