Early morning house fire in Bath Township leaves family without home


BATH TOWNSHIP — Bath Township firefighters battled a house fire early Friday morning that ultimately forced a family from their home.

Crews were dispatched at approximately 2:37 a.m. Friday to 1307 Sugar St., Lima, in reference to a structure fire. Upon their arrival, firefighters observed smoke and flames coming from a bedroom of a home owned by MOD Rentals Ltd. of Lima.

The structure suffered heat, smoke and water damage, according to a fire department report. Damage was estimated at $15,000 to the structure and $5,000 to its contents.

The home is rented by Antonio Loar, who was not home at the time of the fire. Melissa Loar, Laura Henson and Kyler Marinico were inside the residence at the time of the fire and escaped without injury.

Lima Fire Department was called to the scene for mutual aid. The Allen County chapter of the American Red Cross is assisting the family.

The cause of the fire remains under investigation but is not suspicious in nature, the report said.
