Sentencing set for former Lima court worker

LIMA — Susan Barnett, the former deputy clerk at the Lima Municipal Clerk of Courts’ office, will be sentenced Oct. 18 in Allen County Common Pleas Court on charges of theft in office and telecommunications fraud.

A hearing was scheduled Thursday to allow attorneys for Barnett and the Ohio Auditor of State’s Office to present their respective cases to the court as to what amount of restitution the former clerk will owe the City of Lima.

In pleading guilty in July to some of the charges against her, Barnett, now 76, admitted stealing more than $7,500 from the city between 1997 and 2012.

An investigation by the state auditor’s office led to the indictment of Barnett.

Robert Smith, assistant chief legal counsel for the Ohio Auditor of State’s Office, said Thursday that restitution will be discussed at the October sentencing hearing.
