ELIDA — The Elida Local Schools will have a groundbreaking ceremony for the new elementary building at 3 p.m. Sunday, Sept. 8, in the north parking lot, 300 Pioneer Road, Elida.
A separate event for students will be Monday, Sept. 9, where each student has the chance to break ground and will receive small mementos to mark the event.
In May 2018, voters approved a 2.8-mill bond issue and a 0.50-mill levy for the construction of a new Elementary building. The 30-year bonds total $17.9 million to build the new school, and Elida will be receiving a total of $18.1 million in contributions from the State of Ohio toward the project. The construction is expected to be completed by the start of the 2021-22 school year.
