LAFAYETTE — Nine people were injured in a two-vehicle traffic accident Wednesday afternoon in eastern Allen County.
According to a report from the Lima post of the Ohio State Highway Patrol, the accident occurred at approximately 5:30 p.m. on North Rumbaugh Road at Bechtol Road.
According to the report, a 2016 Ford Escape operated by Brianna L. Birchfield, 19, of Lafayette, was westbound on Bechtol Road and in an attempt to turn onto North Rumbaugh Road failed to yield the right of way to a 2015 GMC Yukon driven by Cliff Nickles, 36, of Harrod, which was northbound on North Rumbaugh Road.
Birchfield’s vehicle came to final rest on its passenger side and Nickles’ GMC came to final rest on all four wheels.
Nickles and a front seat passenger, Jessica N. Nickles, 35, of Harrod, suffered non-life threatening injuries and were transported by emergency medical services to Mercy Health-St. Rita’s. Four minor children in the GMC Yukon sustained non-life threatening injuries and were transported by emergency medical services to Mercy Health-St. Rita’s.
Birchfield suffered non-life threatening injuries and was transported to Memorial Health System by emergency medical services. Two passengers, Austin A. Graymire, 21, of Lafayette, and Antonio Van Waning, 21, of Lafayette, were extricated by mechanical means and transported to a Lima hospital for treatment with non-life threatening injuries.
Alcohol and drug are not suspected to be a factor in the crash.
The Ohio State Highway Patrol was assisted at the scene by the Allen County Sheriff’s Office, Lafayette-Jackson Fire Department, LafayetteJackson EMS, Harrod Fire Department, Harrod EMS, A&D Towing and Minich Towing.
